The Southern Ohio Council of Governments was formed in March 1996 and began services in March 1997. The Council was created by Superintendents of County Boards of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in southern Ohio. The Council is a government entity created under Chapter 167 of the Ohio Revised Code, representing 15 County Boards of MRDD. The Council provides administrative supports for County Boards in Ross, Pike, Scioto, Pickaway, Adams, Brown, Clinton, Highland, Athens, Vinton, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Fayette, and Gallia Counties.
The Council’s primary focus is in the areas of quality assurance, provider compliance, investigative services and residential administration of waivers and supported living. We are located in Chillicothe, Ohio on the Veteran’s Administration Hospital grounds.
This year we are celebrating 11 years of service to families, individuals with disabilities, providers, and County Board staff. We continue to embrace the Board’s vision and bring the needs and concerns of rural, southern Ohio to statewide stakeholders in an effort to provide individualized, personal supports to people with developmental disabilities.
